Congratulations to Our 3 Day Fashion Design Challenge Prize Winners!

Our 3 Day Design Challenge for July rolled around just as fast as it seemed to finish. It was quick, it was creative and it was oh so much fun. As always, I was so impressed by the work submitted!

told you everybody has an inner fashion designer.

The challenge is a light-hearted beginner friendly experience to get started with designing your own clothes. I knew from the very first time I hosted this, that we were onto something big.

But don’t take it from me, have a look at some of the testimonials we received this time around:

Brilliant starter for someone who knows nothing about how to start designing a collection
— Sherol B.

Thanks for being so personable and so encouraging. I love that everyone from complete beginners are welcome and made to feel valid.
— Jill S.

You'll find the list of winners below accompanied by a small comment providing an insight into why they were picked and some supportive feedback to keep on developing as a designer.

Above all, thank you to everyone who signed up, took part, joined me live and even if you didn't manage to submit your work this time around; I see you, I appreciate you and thank you for sharing this creative experience with me.

Don’t forget, members of The DPL Atelier have access to the Creative Brief Library and can benefit from access to all our previous challenge workshops and creative briefs to forever stay inspired! The 3 Day Design Challenge is hosted four times a year, why not enrol for the next experience and unleash your inner fashion designer?

Prize winner #3

anna-marie o’connor!

As someone who has taken this challenge previously, it's always a great reward to see the journey of your confidence and skills developing.

This body of work really resulted in refined, wearable pieces from a more eccentric starting point which shows how far Anna-Marie has come as a designer to hone in on that editing eye.

Anna-Marie’s research really connected throughout their work from silhouette decisions to textile choice which further supports what a well rounded submission this was.

Congratulations Anna-Marie, a fun little fashion package will be making it's way to you!

PRIZE WINNER #2

jILL sMYTH

Jill’s mood board really epitomised how important research is to developing original ideas and was such a strong starting point in their project, it would've been hard to go wrong!

As a result, Jill presented a wealth of ideas which is always a pleasure to view, though I would have loved to have seen her initial designs developed a bit more through the techniques covered.

Congratulations Jill, you've won a 1:1 session with me so we can deep dive into who you are at the core as a designer and really unlock your next level!

Prize winner #1

Helen Madge

I adored how Helen drew concepts from their research from the embellishment linked to the skyline and window structures to the consideration of drape capturing the fluidity of watercolour.

Helen’s interpretation of the brief really charmed me and their final submission struck a wonderful balance between two totally individual outfits that achieved a sense of cohesion at the same time. I call that, nailing the creative brief!

As a note for supporting the next step, I would have loved to have seen different hem lengths as both the trouser and jumpsuit are cropped at the calf, this would have been a small change that would have really considered the pieces presented together.

It would have also been amazing to incorporate the warm colours from your mood board into your black, silver and grey palette in the final designs. Even if that was through styling or shoe choice.

Congratulations Helen, you've won 3 months free in The DPL Atelier!

There we have it! Another amazing 3 days of creative energy and original ideas, it’s been a pleasure hosting the workshops and designing real-time alongside you.
